WhatsApp opt-in is the explicit consent a user gives a business to receive WhatsApp messages. Meta requires opt-in to be collected via a clear, third-party channel (website checkbox, OTP confirmation, in-store form) before any non-service template is sent.
Valid opt-in includes: an unchecked checkbox on a website form, a checkbox in checkout, a missed-call opt-in, a WhatsApp click-to-chat that confirms via a follow-up message, or a paper form in a physical store.
Never assume implicit consent — collecting a phone number for shipping does not authorise marketing messages. Broadcasto stores opt-in source, timestamp and IP for every contact for audit.
